There are around 216 factories in Morbi that manufacture ceramic glazed wall tiles.
Endless possibilities...this is what we can say for ceramic glazed wall tiles. There are thousands of designs possible in wall tiles. And companies in Morbi are really good at making new innovative design concepts for wall tiles. They also take inspirations from leading Italian and Spanish factory's collections. Please have a look at some of the wall tiles designs on right side bar.
Smaller, lighter, and thinner than floor tiles, most wall tiles are not meant to withstand high wear & tear. But their lightness is a plus for vertical installation (wall application) and for cutting, and they come in a dazzling array of colors and finishes.
Wall tiles are made by the dust-press method, and the machine-made precision of their shapes works pretty well with the clean lines of many contemporary designs. Usually wall tiles are set closely together, with thin grout lines -- often calibrated via spacers on the tiles' edges.
Although white body (gypsum-based) tiles are generally nonvitreous, the glazing process makes their faces (but not their edges or backs) both water and stain resistant. Water-resistant backing, adhesive, and grout can improve performance, but for vulnerable locations like showers, floors, and exteriors in freezing climates, choose vitreous (vitrified tiles) or impervious tiles (tiles made with waterproof engobe).
Now a days the difference between traditional ‘wall tiles’ and ‘art tiles’ is blurring, as contemporary wall tiles can take on both new colors and finishes of ‘art tile’.
Color ranges from pure white and ivory (beige) through soft pastels to blood red and dark blue.
Surface finishes can be glossy, matte, or textured, and glazes can have a wooden, metallic, leather or stone look instead of the traditional flat color.
(Tip: In general, the shinier the glaze, the more easily it's scratched.)
Some wall tiles are tough enough to be used as countertops. But check with the dealer to be sure the tile's surface can withstand both abrasion and chemicals (the acids in some foods, for example, can penetrate through certain glazes, especially those tiles with copper-based green pigment).
Common sizes for glazed wall tiles that are manufactured in Morbi include 8 by 12, 10 by 13, 10 by 16, 12 by 18 and 12 by 24 inches; larger squares and rectangles may also be available. These dimensions are nominal and may not be exactly accurate, so be sure to take precise measurements of the tiles you like. Thickness is usually about 7 mm to 10 mm.
Prices range from as little as Rs. 8 /Sq Ft per commercial tile to Rs. 20 per square foot. Generally, the more tiles of a particular size, glaze, and ornamentation that are manufactured, the less each one will cost.
(Tip: You can create complex designs from the most basic of tiles. Commercial wall tiles can easily cut to form variant units that work with basic squares. And because these tiles come in such a variety of colors, they can be mixed and matched to create endless contrasts and custom-look patterns.)
Many wall tile lines include coordinated border and trim pieces. Some integrated lines include matching floor tiles, countertop tiles, and coordinated bathroom fixtures. Some companies (like Simpolo Ceramic) even offer matching ceramic soap dishes, towel bars, and other accessories.
Latest trends in wall tile industry: In 2011 some of the visionary companies of Morbi (e.g. Motto Tiles, Solaris Ceramic, Qutone) implemented digital printing technology in their plants. Since digital printing offers many advantages compared to traditional printing, more then 150 units have already upgraded their factory to offer digital tiles to their customers and to keep themselves competitive. They did launched stunning digital wall tiles collection. This technology offers better resolution printing then traditional screen printing method. So during 2013 many other players are planning to order digital printing machinery.
Why digital printing?
Digital printing technology gives 3 key advantages:
1) It offers random printing on tiles. It means when you fix tiles on your wall/floor each tiles have random look. So it will look more like natural marble.
2) Another key advantage is it can print on "uneven" surfaces. Traditional screen printing can only print on flat surface. But if we want to have printing on rustic look surface, stone looking surface or wood looking surface it is only possible with digital printing technology
3) Digital printed tiles are having more dots per inch (dpi) compared to screen printed tiles. It means there is high resolution of design (detailing of design) in digital tiles.
